Saros Brings Housemarque’s Bullet-Hell Sci-Fi Action to PS5

Housemarque, the studio behind Returnal, is preparing to launch its next major sci-fi action title, Saros, a third-person shooter built around fast movement, intense bullet-hell combat, and a dark alien-world mystery.

The game follows Arjun Devraj, a Soltari Enforcer searching for answers on the lost off-world colony of Carcosa. The planet is shaped by a mysterious eclipse, giving the game a tense sci-fi atmosphere mixed with Housemarque’s signature high-speed action.

At its core, Saros focuses on kinetic third-person combat. Players will dodge waves of enemy projectiles, reposition quickly, and fight through dangerous encounters where timing and movement are just as important as shooting. One of the key gameplay features is the Soltari Shield, which allows players to absorb incoming projectile energy and turn it into powerful counterattacks.

While Saros clearly shares DNA with Returnal, Housemarque appears to be pushing the formula forward with more permanent progression, gameplay modifiers, accessibility options, and upgrade systems designed to make each run feel meaningful. The game still keeps the roguelite tension of dangerous encounters and repeated attempts, but it aims to reduce the feeling of losing everything after death.

The result is a game that looks like another major test of precision, reaction speed, and adaptation. With its bullet-heavy combat, sci-fi horror tone, and PS5-focused presentation, Saros is shaping up to be one of the most notable action releases for fans of Returnal and high-intensity shooters.

Saros is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 5 on April 30, 2026.
